Three police officers in San Antonio face murder charges after they allegedly shot and killed a woman insider her apartment on Friday.
The officers responded to an apartment complex after receiving reports that a woman was cutting wires to a fire alarm system in the building.
They confronted the woman, Melissa Perez, after she locked herself in the apartment. Police talked to her through a rear patio window and urged her to come out.
Investigators say Perez tossed a glass candle holder at police and swung a hammer at the officers.
Police then opened fire and killed Perez.
The San Antonio Police Chief said it appeared Perez was having a mental health crisis and that the officers’ response was not reasonable.
The officers are on unpaid administrative leave while the investigation continues. They each posted $100,000 bond after police charged them with murder.
