On behalf of the United States of America, I warmly congratulate the people of Kiribati as you celebrate your National Day on July 12.
The longstanding friendship between the United States and Kiribati continues to grow each year. Our shared commitment to democratic principles and dedication to advancing our common interests, enshrined in our 1979 Treaty of Friendship, are at the heart of all that we do together. The United States is committed to partnering with Kiribati to create a future that is peaceful, prosperous, and secure. Together, we are working to address the climate crisis, combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, promote the sustainable management of marine resources, and expand people-to-people ties. In the coming year, we also look forward to advancing our collaboration and continuing discussions about our interest in opening a United States Embassy in Tarawa.
I extend my best wishes to the citizens of Kiribati as you celebrate your independence. We are grateful for your friendship.
