Prices for onions, which jumped up to 9-10 somoni per kilogram in the markets, decreased significantly and returned almost to their previous positions.
The Antimonopoly Service today during a press conference named the reason for the sharp rise in prices for this agricultural product.
According to the head of the service, Abdumajid Muminzoda, prices for onions have really risen sharply – from 2.5 somoni to 7 somoni and even higher per kilogram.
According to him, the Antimonopoly Service monitors prices, and if they are artificially high, that is, without any reason, then the service intervenes.
The criterion by which an unreasonable increase in prices for a particular product is determined is the factor when the price is overstated by more than 20%.
“We checked the onion price spike process. The fact is that onions are mainly imported to Dushanbe and other regions from the Sughd region. The weather caused the road to be closed, and naturally the volume of onions imported from Sogd decreased, which affected prices. Another reason is the decrease in the volume of onion sowing in other cities and regions of the country,” said the head of the Antimonopoly Service.
“Now prices for onions have been regulated. Currently, a kilogram of onions in the capital markets costs from 3.5 to 4.5 somoni,” said Abdumajid Muminzoda.
